Is It Inhibiting, or Enabling Your Business?
DMI is different in every organization. Your DMI is different not only from the company across the street, but also from other companies of your size in your industry. But at the highest level, DMI is the platform that exists in your organization that facilitates the communication and workflow of hardcopy and digital document-based information throughout your organization and to and from your customers, vendors, partners, investors, auditors, regulators, etc. It’s inclusive of assets, software and processes that all exist outside your existing IT infrastructure. So although it interacts and relies on your IT infrastructure, it’s much more than an IT issue.
Your DMI runs through your IT infrastructure, around your organization and across your entire value chain.
When it’s optimized, it can be a key differentiator, setting you apart from your competition and empowering your business to be more successful in achieving its core business initiatives. |

It has a tremendous and largely hidden impact on your ability to execute in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner through many components of your business delivery model.
DMI is also exceptionally complex. A number of specific core competencies are required to deliver and sustain a comprehensive DMI that is customized and optimized to your specific business objectives and needs. These competencies typically don’t exist in most organizations, as they are not core to the business. But an optimized DMI can in fact be core to enhancing or hindering nearly any organization’s respective revenue, cost and productivity objectives.
An optimized DMI is also not something you implement once and then ignore. As your business needs change, so does your need to continually manage and improve your DMI to keep it aligned with your needs and performing efficiently. It’s an ongoing process that includes procurement, management, maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement to remain optimized as your business changes.
